Bishop Andy C. Lewter was born on May 11, 1954, in Brooklyn, NY to Andy C. and Ruth Fuller Lewter. He spent his early years in the Lawrence, NY Public School System and the Amityville Public School System. In 1972, Bishop Lewter graduated from Long Island Lutheran High School and continued his education at Oberlin College in Oberlin, OH. After college, Bishop Lewter attended and graduated from Harvard Divinity School and completed another year of graduate studies at Oxford University in England.
From 1976-1978, Bishop Lewter taught Social Studies in the John P. McCormick Middle School in South Boston but in 1978, Bishop Lewter began his pastoral career at the Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church of Ossining, NY where he remained until 1985. From 1985-2005 Bishop Lewter pastored the Oakley Full Gospel Baptist Church of Columbus, Ohio. Since 2006, Bishop Lewter has been the Senior Pastor of the Hollywood Full Gospel Baptist Cathedral of Amityville, NY. In 2012, Bishop Lewter launched a sister congregation, the Queens Ministry in Jamaica, N.Y.
In 1993, Bishop Lewter became one of the founding bishops of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship where he currently serves as the Bishop of Christian Education. In 1995, Bishop Lewter earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.
Over the years, Bishop Lewter has distinguished himself as a churchman and a Christian Educator. He currently offers a number of online theological courses and is an adjunct professor at the Beulah Heights Bible University in Atlanta, GA. Bishop Lewter has authored several books and continues to serve as a pioneer in the field of ministry and technology.
Bishop Lewter is the proud father of two children, Stephanie Diane of Fort Mill, South Carolina and Andy C. Lewter, III of Newark, NJ. Bishop Lewter delights in being the grandfather of six grandchildren.
